Flaxseed

Getting the calories we need in a day, without going over is an important part of losing weight. A diet high in fiber not only curbs your hunger and reduces your cravings, but also helps your heart and digestive tract.

Flaxseed is great for your heart, your gastro intestinal tract, and is high in fibers and vitamins. Flaxseed is loaded with fiber and omega three fatty acids, which lower cholesterol levels and low density lipoproteins. Flaxseed lowers the chances of blood clots and coronary heart diseases.

A serving of flaxseed is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. It contains high levels of protein, thiamin (Vitamin B1), riboflavin (B2), Niacin (B3), Panthothenic Acid (B5), B6, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc.

The high levels of omega fatty acids have been linked to lowered levels of inflammation. By improving the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 acids there is a link to lowering chronic swelling. This may alleviate arthritic pains.

A small warning: If you are taking blood thinners, are hemophilic, or suffering from liver disease, one should be careful of how much flaxseed they consume. Flaxseed has been known to reduce the ability for blood to clot and stop bleeding.
